Overland Park – Despite the overwhelming unpopularity of the recently passed healthcare bill, Stephene Moore is calling on Obamacare Director, Kathleen Sebelius, to help her raise money. In a move lockstep with the current Democrat majority, Sebelius will be coming to Topeka this Friday evening in an attempt to keep the 3rd District in liberal hands.

Moore is a supporter of Obamacare despite evidence that it will wreck the U.S. economy and despite the fact that 60% of Americans want the law repealed.

Voters have expressed their concerns regarding Obamacare for good reason. Sebelius and Moore’s Obamacare will have toxic ramifications for the families, small businesses and seniors of the 3rd District. Under Obamacare, Kansas employers could face penalties of $2,000 per worker for not offering the government mandated coverage. With Obamacare, the average insurance premiums for those who buy their own insurance would go up by 17 percent. The bill contains approximately $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, a devastating blow to seniors.

“Kathleen Sebelius’ fundraiser is proof positive that, if elected, Stephene Moore will act as a rubber stamp for the liberal policies of Nancy Pelosi,” said Travis Smith, Yoder for Congress Campaign Manager. “Obamacare will hurt the small businesses, families and seniors in the 3rd District who are already struggling to make ends meet. Mrs. Moore is continuing the pattern of turning a deaf ear to the struggles and concerns of seniors and small businesses of the 3rd District. First it was Barney Frank holding a fundraiser for Mrs. Moore, now Kathleen Sebelius. It will be interesting to see what Washington liberal leader will raise money for this so-called moderate candidate’s campaign. The voters of the 3rd District deserve someone who represents their interests, not the interests of Washington liberals.”

Kevin Yoder is a candidate for U.S. Congress in Kansas’ 3rd District. Yoder has been a leader in the Kansas Legislature for 8 years, representing parts of Overland Park and Leawood, fighting to lower taxes, reduce wasteful spending and create Kansas jobs. A 5th generation Kansan, Kevin lives in Overland Park with his wife Brooke.
Moore Forced to Defend Anti-Jobs Agenda With Small Business Owners

Attempting to Save Face With Group Adamantly Opposed to Pelosi-Moore Agenda

OVERLAND PARK – With near double-digit national unemployment, Congress under the leadership of Speaker Pelosi is killing job-creation in America with record out-of-control spending, bailouts, and debt. Democratic leadership’s agenda has been described by the “Business Roundtable” as “hostile” to American investment and job-creation. Now, as she openly supports the jobs-killing agenda of Speaker Pelosi, Stephene Moore is holding a roundtable today with members of the business community to attempt to defend and explain away her support for Pelosi’s jobs-killing agenda.

Mrs. Moore’s release said that she will speak to small business owners about “contrasting herself on economic issues from her opponents in the November election.” Perhaps Mrs. Moore will speak to these business owners about her on-the-record support of such business killing legislation as Cap and Trade, Card Check, Obamacare and the expiration of middle class tax relief, all of which will have devastating ramifications for the small businesses of the 3rd District.

“Stephene Moore’s policies are simply anti-business,” said Travis Smith, Yoder for Congress Campaign Manager. “We agree wholeheartedly that the contrast between Kevin Yoder and Stephene Moore could not be clearer, and we are eager to hear how Mrs. Moore attempts to defend her beliefs to the small business owners of the 3rd District.”

“We welcome a discussion regarding the contrasts between Kevin and Mrs. Moore on the economic issues facing our businesses this November. Mrs. Moore plainly and openly supports jobs-killing legislation like Cap and Trade, Card Check, the expiration of middle class tax relief, and Obamacare, all of which are toxic to small businesses. It comes in stark contrast to Kevin Yoder, a proven fiscal conservative who has the support of small businesses all across the 3rd District and has always fought for job-creation through empowering small businesses.”

Despite Promises to Debate “as much as possible,” Stephene Moore Refuses to Accept Debate Proposal

Overland Park, KS- Last week Kevin Yoder’s U.S. Congressional Campaign, requested that Stephene Moore agree to a 6 debate schedule. Stephene Moore initially responded to an open invitation to engage in debates with Yoder by stating she was “eager to debate as much as possible over the course of the campaign,” and that she believed “it is important that all candidates in the race are involved in an open and honest dialogue to discuss the issues.”

In his open debate proposal, Kevin Yoder requested that Mrs. Moore agree to the debates by Monday, August 23rd. Despite her promise to openly engage in as many debates as possible, Mrs. Moore has failed to accept any of the debates proposed by Yoder.

“I believe that a clear choice will be offered to voters this November between myself and Mrs. Moore,” said Kevin Yoder. “The voters of the 3rd District deserve to hear from the candidates regarding the crucial issues facing our country. Unlike Mrs. Moore, I have not been afraid to share my views on the direction of Congress and the important issues of the day. I look forward to a continued dialogue with the people of Kansas over the next 10 weeks and hope Mrs. Moore decides to share her views with the voters as well.”

The following six debates were proposed by Kevin Yoder:

The congressional forum debate, hosted by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce , on September 17th, at noon

Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the Sheraton Overland Park, hosted by the Overland Park Chamber and 9 other Johnson County chambers, date and time to be determined

Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the University of Kansas, hosted by several campus organizations, on September 27th, at 7 p.m.

Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at The Johnson County Community College hosted by a coalition of organizations including the Kansas City Stare, the league of Women Voters of Johnson County, The Johnson County Community College, and KCPT public television, on October 7th, at 7 p.m.

Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the Jewish Community Center, hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Bureau/ American Jewish Committee, on October 13th, at 7pm

Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at Shawnee Mission East High School hosted by the SME Student Council, The SME Harbinger student news publication, and the student councils of several other local public high school , on October 20th, at 7 p.m.

Yoder is the Republican nominee for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District. Yoder will face Stephene Moore, the wife of retiring Democrat Dennis Moore, in the November 2nd General Election. Kevin lives in Overland Park with his wife Brooke.

1.) Will you vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House?

•	Speaker Pelosi promised the American people that she would run the “cleanest” Congress in history, yet Charlie Rangel remained Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee despite a flagrant disregard for the rules and for the ethical standards required of a U.S. representative.
•	Speaker Pelosi has deliberately rammed harmful legislation through the Congress without open debate, despite promises of transparency.
•	Under the control of Speaker Pelosi, the Democrat led Congress has saddled our country with a $1.3 trillion deficit.

2.) Do you support extending the Republican Tax Cuts?

•	If the Republican tax cuts expire, there will be an average household tax increase of $1,918 per family in the 3rd District.
•	The expiration of the Republican Tax Cuts will harm small businesses.

3.) Do you support repealing Obamacare?

•	A recent poll revealed that 60% of Americans favor repeal of health care law, and 50% say repeal would benefit economy.
•	Stephene Moore told the Kansas City Star that she would have voted for the recent health care bill. “Stephene Moore announces for Congress, says she’s not entitled to seat,” Kansas City Star, 04/06/2010).

4.) Do you support repealing portions of Obamacare that slash Medicare?

•	Obamacare cuts $233 billion from Medicare Part A and B payments to hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies. Recently, the Houston Chronicle reported that 300 doctors have stopped seeing seniors and dropped out of Medicare in the last two years.

•	President Obama’s chief actuary concluded that these cuts could jeopardize access to care for seniors and force roughly 15 percent of Medicare Part A providers to become unprofitable and drop out of Medicare.

5.) Do you support Card Check?

•	Congressman Dennis Moore was a sponsor of this legislation in the House.
•	Stephene Moore told the Kansas City Star that she too would support this business killing legislation. “Stephene Moore announces for Congress, says she’s not entitled to seat,” Kansas City Star, 04/06/2010).

The voters of the 3rd District deserve to know where both candidates stand on these crucial issues. If we are to have a frank, open and honest discussion of the issues, Stephene Moore must first make her positions known.

Kevin Yoder has made his positions clear.

Kevin Yoder’s first vote as a member of Congress will be to vote against Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

Kevin Yoder will fight to make the Republican Tax Cuts permanent. Raising taxes during a recession is fundamentally unwise. “We must preserve the greatest middle class tax relief in history,” said Kevin Yoder. “About half of all small-business income is reported on the individual returns of people making over $250,000 a year. We cannot forget that a lot of the people affected by the sunset of this tax relief are small businesses and the American people don’t want small businesses paying higher taxes — they want them hiring more people.”

Kevin will work to repeal portions of the Obama/Pelosi healthcare legislation that will drive up costs, increase the deficit, grow bureaucracy and lower the standards of health care that Americans expect. Kevin will work to re-write this act and build true health care reform that focuses on free market competition, patient choice and high quality of care. “I support making healthcare more affordable for all Americans,” said Kevin Yoder. “However, what I cannot support are pieces of legislation rammed through Congress that will raise our taxes, increase insurance premiums, and promise to make drastic cuts in Medicare.”

Kevin Yoder will work to repeal portions of Obamacare that slash Medicare. “Our country’s seniors deserve better than this bill,” said Kevin Yoder. “Seniors on fixed incomes are already strapped with overly burdensome healthcare and prescription drug costs. The reformation of our health care system must look out for the interests of our seniors.”

Kevin Yoder does not and will not support Card Check. “We must begin championing businesses, and legislation such as Card Check is harmful to our country’s businesses,” said Kevin Yoder. “In the midst of the worst economic climate in recent history, we must look for ways to strengthen the private sector and increase job growth.”

Dear Mrs. Moore,

I was excited to see that you have accepted my invitation to participate in six debates and to hear that you are “eager to debate as much as possible over the course of the campaign”, as well as sharing my belief that “It is important that all candidates in the race are involved in an open and honest dialogue to discuss the issues.”

To facilitate the frank and open discussion the voters of the Kansas 3rd congressional district deserve, I would like to propose the following six debates.

1.) The congressional forum debate, hosted by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce , on September 17th, at noon;

2.) Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the Sheraton Overland Park, hosted by the Overland Park Chamber and 9 other Johnson County chambers, date and time to be determined;

3.) Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the University of Kansas, hosted by several campus organizations, on September 27th, at 7 p.m.;

5.) Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the Jewish Community Center, hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Bureau/ American Jewish Committee, on October 13th, at 7pm;

6.) Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at Shawnee Mission East High School hosted by the SME Student Council, The SME Harbinger student news publication, and the student councils of several other local public high school , on October 20th, at 7 p.m.
Please confirm your attendance with the venues or with my campaign by Monday, August 23rd to give the voters in the 3rd District enough time to plan accordingly.

In addition to the above mentioned six debates, our campaign is open to scheduling additional debates if and when the opportunities may present themselves.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Kevin Yoder

GOP reveals midterm blueprint

By Alex Isenstadt
Politico
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0810/41143.html

The GOP blueprint for winning control of the House is rapidly coming into focus, with the National Republican Congressional Committee readying a $22 million TV ad blitz aimed at a handful of powerful, long-serving incumbents and several dozen of the most junior members of the Democratic majority.

POLITICO has learned that the Republican campaign arm will invest in 40 districts around the nation in its first wave of television commercial reservations – a target list that ranges from powerful veterans such as Budget Committee Chairman Rep. John Spratt (D-S.C.) and Rep. Chet Edwards (D-Texas), an Appropriations Committee cardinal, to endangered freshmen legislators including Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), Rep. Betsy Markey (D-Colo.), and Rep. Harry Teague (D-N.M.).

The reservations, which were confirmed to POLITICO by several senior party officials familiar with the buy, provide the clearest snapshot yet of the GOP’s strategy for erasing the 39-seat Democratic advantage in the House-an approach that is contingent on picking off a large number of Democrats elected in 2006 and 2008, in addition to a handful of longtime incumbents.

While Democrats have reserved ad time in 60 races to date, the vast majority of those reservations-54 of them-are designed to protect vulnerable incumbents. Republicans, on the other hand, are investing in an almost entirely offensive effort. Of the 40 seats covered in the NRCC buy, 39 are currently held by Democrats.

The bulk of the Democrats in the crosshairs are vulnerable first-term legislators sitting in Republican-oriented seats. Many are clustered in the South, including Rep. Bobby Bright (D-Ala.), Rep. Suzanne Kosmas (D-Fla.), Rep. Travis Childers (D-Miss.), Rep. Tom Perriello (D-Va.) and Rep. Glenn Nye (D-Va.).

Republicans are also looking toward a handful of Republican-leaning seats that have been left vacant by Democratic retirements. Among them: Arkansas’s 1st District, Indiana’s 8th District, Kansas’s 3rd District, and Tennessee’s 8th District.

A number of seasoned Capitol Hill veterans are being singled out for rough treatment. Rep. Ben Chandler (D-Ky.), Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (D-Texas), Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-N.D.), Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.), Edwards, and Spratt – all of whom face their most difficult reelection campaigns in years – are on the GOP fall hit list.

In a nod to the perilous election environment, Republicans are also probing for fresh pickup opportunities in Republican-friendly districts that until recently looked to be locked down by savvy Democrats. Rep. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.), Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.), and Rep. Baron Hill (D-Ind.)- all of whom hold wide cash on hand advantages over their opponents and won by comfortable margins in 2008-will have ads run against them.

Despite the NRCC’s muscle-flexing, money remains a major obstacle in their pursuit of a majority. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee revealed two weeks ago that it was reserving over $49 million in ad time – much of it to defend imperiled incumbents – a firewall that reflected the committee’s ability to use its financial strength to protect its majority. The DCCC has $34 million in the bank, doubling the NRCC’s $17 million.

Cash-flush Democrats have used their deep pockets to invest in several competitive seats where national Republicans have yet to signal their intention to compete aggressively. The NRCC has so far bypassed a handful of open or otherwise reasonably competitive seats that offer some promise for GOP gains.

Republican officials declined to specify when they would begin running their ads, noting that those decisions were still being made. The DCCC’s reservations encompass the final two weeks of the campaign.

Notably, the NRCC has yet to announce plans to defend several imperiled GOP incumbents who rank high on Democratic target lists. Rep. Charles Djou (R-Hawaii), Rep. Joseph Cao (R-La.)-the two incumbents widely considered to be the most endangered Republicans-were left off the NRCC roster. Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), who is thought to be in better shape, was also not included.

The lone Republican-held open seat among the initial NRCC ad reservations is Illinois’s 10th District, a Democratic-leaning suburban Chicago seat vacated by Rep. Mark Kirk, who is running for Senate.

One senior Republican official stressed that the ad reservations were only tentative and could change in the weeks to come.

“Consider this is a down payment on what is to come in the fall,” said the official. “The playing field is expanding and we plan to be on offense as we continue to close the financial gap in the final weeks.”

Here are the full list of districts the NRCC plans to air ads in: Alabama’s 2nd District, Arkansas’s 1st District, California’s 11th District, Colorado’s 4th District, Florida’s 2nd District, Florida’s 8th District, Florida’s 24th District, Georgia’s 8th District, Illinois’s 10th District, Illinois’s 11th District, Indiana’s 2nd District, Indiana’s 8th District, Indiana’s 9th District, Kansas’s 3rd District, Kentucky’s 6th District, Maryland’s 1st District, Michigan’s 1st District, Michigan’s 7th District, Mississippi’s 1st District, New Hampshire’s 1st District, Nevada’s 3rd District, New Mexico’s 2nd District, New York’s 20th District, New York’s 24th District, North Dakota At-Large, Ohio’s 1st District, Ohio’s 15th District, Ohio’s 16th District, Pennsylvania’s 3rd District, Pennsylvania’s 7th District, Pennsylvania’s 11th District, South Carolina’s 5th District, South Dakota At-Large, Tennessee’s 8th District, Texas’s 17th District, Texas’s 23rd District, Virginia’s 2nd District, Virginia’s 5th District, and West Virginia’s 1st District, Wisconsin’s 7th District.

The highly respected (and non-partisan) Cook Political Report is out with new ratings for open-seat congressional races.

Of Kansas’ 3rd District (Moore vs. Yoder), Cook has determined that the district now “leans Republican.”

The money graf:

“Democrats will try to contrast Moore’s life story as a health care provider and community activist against Yoder’s ambition and flip-flopping, but Republicans will work hard to tie Moore to her husband’s party line votes. Republicans say Yoder has already passed his toughest test by winning the primary, robbing Democrats of their best hope of capturing the district’s middle-of-the-road voters. Today, we give Yoder a slight edge.”

2010 Race of the Day: Making Sure There Isn’t Moore of the Same
by Brian Walsh
Townhall.com

The wave of Democratic retirements began in Kansas’ Third Congressional District, which covers the Kansas City, Kansas metropolitan area and its suburbs, including Wyandotte, Johnson and portions of Douglas County. Incumbent Dennis Moore has represented the district since 1999, but became the first House Democrat to announce his retirement on November 23, 2009. At first, Democrats boasted that they would retain this seat, but changed their tune after several Democrats passed on running. After six months of recruiting failures, they finally coaxed Moore’s wife Stephene into entering the race for her husband’s seat. Stephene is now hoping to continue her husband’s legacy of toeing the party line, killing jobs, and rubber-stamping reckless government spending sprees. She certainly has her work cut out for her as no living Member of Congress has seen their spouse directly elected to succeed them.

On the Republican side, Kevin Yoder has proven to be a formidable candidate, outraising all of his opponents combined in the four months since he entered the race. A fifth generation Kansan who grew up on a grain and livestock farm near the community of Yoder, Kevin has served as a State Rep. for Kansas House District 20 since 2002 and serves as the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. Yoder, quickly established himself as a leader in fiscal responsibility, cutting more spending than any Chair of the Appropriations Committee in Kansas history. Yoder stood up to Gov. Mark Parkinson and presented a proposal that would’ve balanced the budget without raising taxes. During his time as a State Rep., Yoder was also the lead sponsor of a bill to put a debt ceiling on Kansas borrowing, which passed an overwhelming majority. He has developed a reputation as a champion of small businesses, earning himself a 100 percent score with the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce and a ‘pro-jobs’ rating from the Kansas Chamber of Commerce.

The Third District is Kansas’s smallest and most affluent, and traditionally leans moderately Republican. The Cook Political Voting Index is rated as R+3. Moore defeated Republican incumbent Vince Snowbarger in 1998 and became the first Democrat to represent the district in 37 years. In 2000, Moore barely held on to his seat, taking 50 percent of the vote against Republican Phill Kline. Yoder and his wife Brooke currently live in Johnson County, the crucial “must-win” part of the district.

In 2002, 2004 and 2006, Moore defeated several conservative candidates, and became the policy co-chair for the Blue Dog Democrats in the 110th Congress. He is also a member of the New Democrat Coalition, an organization made up of Democrats that claim they support a “moderate and pro-growth” agenda. Moore may have begun his political career as a moderate Democrat, but he has grown to become nothing more than a loyal Pelosi lapdog, with a record of voting with the Speaker 97.8 percent of the time. Stephene Moore stumbled right out of the gate by endorsing the same failed policies– the so-called “stimulus,” National Energy Tax and government takeover of healthcare – that many believe imperiled her husband’s reelection chances to begin with.

Yoder’s fundraising success has led him to achieve “Contender” status in the NRCC’s Young Guns program. www.yoderforcongress.com

Dear Mrs. Moore,

Congratulations on your Primary Election victory on Tuesday.

With only 89 days until the General Election, it is time for us to have a serious discussion about the issues facing our Nation and district.

Our Nation is at a crossroads. Our economy is still sputtering and unemployment hovers around 10% despite efforts by President Obama and Congressional Democrats to spend, tax and regulate our way out of the recession. Our Nation deserves better and our district deserves an open and honest discussion about the differences between our two views of government.

As 3rd District voters consider the future of our country and Congress before they cast their vote in the November General Election, they have before them a distinct choice between two candidates with two different plans to solve the problems facing our Nation.

I believe, and I am certain that you will agree, that it is our responsibility to provide the citizens of this great state a forum to hear our different plans, positions and solutions. To facilitate this open exchange of ideas, I invite you to engage in six (6) debates on issues pertinent to constituents throughout the district.

I have already agreed to participate in two (2) debates that have been brought to my campaign’s attention: Kansas City, Kansas Chamber of Commerce debate in Wyandotte County and a debate in Douglas County at the University of Kansas. Details for the proposed two debates will be released in the future. In addition, organizations like the Chambers of Commerce in Johnson County, KCPT and Sun Publications have conducted debates in the past for the Republican and Democrat nominees for Congress.

I believe the people of the 3rd Congressional District have been deprived of the opportunity to hear from their member of Congress on the important issues facing our Nation today. It is my desire to ensure that the voters of the 3rd District of Kansas hear from their next Representative in Congress. Holding six (6) debates, district wide, is an important step in the right direction to bringing Congress back to the people of the District.

I look forward to your response to this invitation and the opportunity to engage in an open dialogue with you and the people of the 3rd District of Kansas. My campaign staff will follow up with your team to discuss mutually acceptable locations, moderators and formats for each debate.

Sincerely,

Kevin Yoder

Yoder Wins Republican Primary; Calls for a New Direction and Leadership in Congress

Overland Park – Kevin Yoder became the Republican nominee for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the US Congress tonight receiving 45 % of the Republican Primary vote against 8 other GOP candidates.

“I first have to say thank you to the voters in the 3rdDistrict who, like me, are looking for a new direction in Congress,” said Kevin Yoder. “We need new leadership in Washington; Republican leadership that defends the values of lower spending and lower taxes, with a focus on job creation. We cannot afford to wait another election to turn this economy around, it must happen this year, and tonight is the first step towards removing the failed policies of the Pelosi Congress.”

“As we have heard all across this Nation and in the 3rdDistrict, the people want to get back to the basics of budget discipline, small government and free markets,” said Yoder. “The voters have had enough with the out of control spending, embarrassing national debt and growth of government that Democrats have delivered in Congress. So tonight we offer a choice – a contrast of what the future of our Congress will look like. I stand for cutting spending, cutting deficits and building jobs. Mrs. Moore and her Democrat leader, Nancy Pelosi, believe in the jobs killing Cap and Trade bill, Obamacare and stimulus plans that stimulate nothing but the size of government. This is a debate that should happen, and this is the debate that will happen the next 90 days.”

Yoder will now go on to face Democratic nominee, Stephene Moore, in the November 2nd General Election. Kevin lives in Overland Park with his wife Brooke.
