Despite Promises to Debate “as much as possible,” Stephene Moore Refuses to Accept Debate Proposal

Overland Park, KS- Last week Kevin Yoder’s U.S. Congressional Campaign, requested that Stephene Moore agree to a 6 debate schedule. Stephene Moore initially responded to an open invitation to engage in debates with Yoder by stating she was “eager to debate as much as possible over the course of the campaign,” and that she believed “it is important that all candidates in the race are involved in an open and honest dialogue to discuss the issues.”

In his open debate proposal, Kevin Yoder requested that Mrs. Moore agree to the debates by Monday, August 23rd. Despite her promise to openly engage in as many debates as possible, Mrs. Moore has failed to accept any of the debates proposed by Yoder.

“I believe that a clear choice will be offered to voters this November between myself and Mrs. Moore,” said Kevin Yoder. “The voters of the 3rd District deserve to hear from the candidates regarding the crucial issues facing our country. Unlike Mrs. Moore, I have not been afraid to share my views on the direction of Congress and the important issues of the day. I look forward to a continued dialogue with the people of Kansas over the next 10 weeks and hope Mrs. Moore decides to share her views with the voters as well.”

The following six debates were proposed by Kevin Yoder:

  • The congressional forum debate, hosted by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce , on September 17th, at noon
  • Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the Sheraton Overland Park, hosted by the Overland Park Chamber and 9 other Johnson County chambers, date and time to be determined
  • Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the University of Kansas, hosted by several campus organizations, on September 27th, at 7 p.m.
  • Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at The Johnson County Community College hosted by a coalition of organizations including the Kansas City Stare, the league of Women Voters of Johnson County, The Johnson County Community College, and KCPT public television, on October 7th, at 7 p.m.
  • Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at the Jewish Community Center, hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Bureau/ American Jewish Committee, on October 13th, at 7pm
  • Kansas 3rd Congressional District Debate at Shawnee Mission East High School hosted by the SME Student Council, The SME Harbinger student news publication, and the student councils of several other local public high school , on October 20th, at 7 p.m.

Yoder is the Republican nominee for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District. Yoder will face Stephene Moore, the wife of retiring Democrat Dennis Moore, in the November 2nd General Election. Kevin lives in Overland Park with his wife Brooke.
